The Office of U.S. Senator Angela D. Alsobrooks is seeking motivated, detail-oriented, and hardworking undergraduate and graduate students committed to public service to intern in our office.

Washington, D.C. interns will have the unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the daily operations of a U.S. Senate office. Duties include, but are not limited to, constituent engagement and correspondence, such as, answering phone calls, providing tours; policy work, such as, researching legislation, attending hearings and briefings; press work, such as, composing press releases, compiling media clips; and various administrative support.

Baltimore and Prince George’s County interns will gain firsthand exposure to how elected officials help constituents navigate federal agencies. Duties include, but are not limited to, supporting constituent services through fielding calls from constituents and drafting correspondence to federal agencies; community outreach, meeting and event participation; and special projects and administrative support.

Is there a grade eligibility?

Eligible candidates must be rising college sophomores or older. Graduate students and veterans enrolled in educational programs are eligible.

Anyone can apply, but candidates from Maryland or attending school in Maryland are strongly preferred.

All interns must be available on the session start date from approximately 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for mandatory onboarding. There is some flexibility to the session end date.

Interns must be able to work 20 – 26 hours a week and during dedicated shifts, ideally around 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. or 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Most interns are paid, but it may depend on outside factors like school credit, external host programs and more.

Interns should work with the academic institution to determine if they are eligible to receive academic credit. Our office will complete any associated paperwork.

Parking may be available in the Maryland offices. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide parking or transit benefits to D.C. interns.

Interns are generally not eligible to telework.
