WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Senator Angela Alsobrooks released the following statement following the news that the consumer-price index rose 3% in January:

“It has been nearly a month of this Administration and we have yet to see a single action – a single attempt – to lower costs for Marylanders. Instead, we learned today that consumer prices rose 3% in January, compared to a year ago.

“We are seeing prices at the grocery store soar, gas prices are up, utility and energy prices are up. This Administration promised they would lower costs, but all we’ve seen is them attack our civil servants, sow chaos, and threaten mass layoffs.

“How does cutting Medicare lower the cost of eggs? How does slashing funding at the Social Security Administration lower the cost of gas? How does firing a bunch of civil servants lower the cost of housing? How does Elon Musk having access to our Social Security numbers lower the cost of prescription drugs?

“Today, we the answer: IT DOESN’T. Because Americans know: cutting jobs doesn’t cut costs.”
