WASHINGTON, DC – In case you missed it, the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy PATIENTS Program experienced mass layoffs due to this Administration’s cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The PATIENTS program allows researchers to partner with patients and care providers to answer questions about the best treatment to improve their health and quality of life. A $9.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health made up nearly 30% of the funding for the project.
This research project is one of hundreds across the country that have lost funding after the Trump Administration callously cut $1.8 billion in grants from the NIH.
Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) released the following statement:
“Once again, Maryland is feeling the devastating impacts of this Administration’s opposition to science and progress. From drastic cuts to research funding to spreading anti-vaccine propaganda, this Administration is taking actions that will cost lives. The NIH is the crown jewel of all medical research organizations in the world – we must continue to invest in the lifesaving work they do.”
