SILVER SPRING, MD – Today, Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) and Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman hosted a fireside chat at Leisure World to engage with the Leisure World Community, provide legislative updates, pertinent information, and hear their concerns and questions.

The second hour of the event featured a panel with Maryland Secretary of Aging Carmel Roques, Former Governor and Social Security Administrator Martin O’Malley, and Maryland Banking Association President and CEO Tisha Edwards.

“It was such a joy to gather with the Leisure World community again today. Seniors are feeling the pain of this corrupt and depraved Administration and the squeeze of rising costs. Republicans have made it clear they don’t care to protect Social Security or Medicare – they’re more interested in lining the pockets of billionaires. But as I made clear today at Leisure World, I will never stop fighting for our seniors – to lower their costs and to protect their benefits,” said Senator Alsobrooks.

“Today’s conversation was a reminder that Maryland’s older adults are navigating real uncertainty, including uncertainty about federal benefits, the cost of groceries, health care, and electricity,” said Comptroller Brooke Lierman. “The Comptroller’s office can’t control every decision made at the federal level, but we can ensure state government does its part. Locally, that means fighting tax fraud, modernizing our systems, returning unclaimed property, and ensuring resources such as the Earned Income Tax Credit reach those who earned them.”
